Serpentine pavillion..

Just walked all the way around the Serpentine, along leafy glades and beautiful shrubbery. A glorious evening, with what seemed like the female half of Saudi Arabia celebrating the lush oasis that is Hyde Park in June.

And as we wandered around the Serpentine gallery, whilst London's glitterati made their way from Yoko Ono's preview party back to their chauffeured Bentleys, we discovered this years' summer pavillion.

What a sight. Ever since Frank Gehry's 2008 masterpiece, we've become accustomed to disappointment. But not this year. Herzog, de Meuron & Ai Weiwei - only the last of which I've heard of - have produced an intriguing underworld den which reminded me of Qin Shihuang's terracotta warriors, buried beneath the earth.

2012 really is building up to be a vintage summer for beautiful old London.
